Accessing Shakespeare
A 6 week course on approaching Shakespeare's language with confidence

Service Description
Shakespeare can feel intimidating, or in-accessible. The language looks dense, the speeches feel long, and the pressure to “get it right” can freeze even the most experienced actor. Whether you want to dust off your Shakespeare skills, or explore verse properly for the first time. This course is for you. Taught by acting coach Richard Corgan, we will strip Shakespeare back to what it actually is: playable, human, emotional drama written for actors. Richard has spent over 25 years working extensively on Shakespeare as both an actor and director, and his approach is grounded, practical, and actor-friendly. There’s no academic posturing, no expectation that you already understand iambic pentameter, and absolutely no judgment. Across six weeks, you’ll learn how to approach Shakespeare’s language with confidence. You’ll discover how the text supports you instead of traps you, how to break down speeches so they feel manageable, and how to make bold, truthful acting choices without feeling “wrong.” The focus is always on playing the action, not reciting poetry. This course is not about sounding posh, clever, or “classical.” It’s about clarity, intention, and connection—skills that will strengthen your acting far beyond Shakespeare. Expect practical exercises, scene and speech work, and clear tools you can use again and again in auditions and rehearsals. Most importantly, this is a safe space to ask the questions you’ve always been afraid to ask. By the end of the six weeks, Shakespeare won’t feel like a mountain to climb. It will feel like material you’re excited—and equipped—to tackle. If you secretly believe Shakespeare is out of your depth, this course is for you.
